RULES

Please read carefully. You must meet all the requirements below to be eligible to participate in the college essay competition. Good luck and thank you for participating!

1. Applicant must be a high school senior and reside within the Amityville School District.

2. Applicant may attend a public or private school.

3. The deadline for this competition is Spring 2026. All required materials must be submitted, and online submissions must be dated no later than April 28th, 2025.

4. Winner will be chosen and notified in the Spring of 2026.

 In 750 words or less, write a college level essay answering the above question. Times New Roman Font 12. PDF files will only be accepted.

The First Prize and Second Prize Scholarship winner(s) will be chosen by a committee comprised of select members of the Junior League of the Amityville Women’s Club. The college level essay will be judged on its response to the Question Presented; the strength of argument/s to support position; organization and presentation of arguments; style and creativity; and spelling/grammar/punctuation.

The first place winner will receive a $1,500.00 scholarship prize and second place winner will receive a $1,000.00 scholarship prize to be used solely for the continuing education of the winning applicant. The winner will need to submit payment information that will allow us to write a check directly to the college of your choice.
